What began as an idea earlier in 2014 blossomed into a year of loving sewing dedicated to those in need.
A Saturday sewing club transformed into Sew Addicted Charity Sewing Club. Thanks to dedicated members, we were able to help several organizations beginning with the American Red Cross. For them, we made comfort blankets to help those rescued from fires and natural disaster.
Next came the SBK Animal Center. With donated comforters, sheets, pillow cases and fabric our members purchased, we were able to make more than 100 beds, blankets, adoption vests, coats, and more for the animals in the area shelters. We then donated a Dresden Quilt to be auctioned off to raise money for the Animal Center which brought in $900.
The American Cancer Society heard about our group and contacted us. We were thrilled to help such a worthy cause. We made a quilt which read "A quilt stitched with the thread of love is a comforter for the soul" to be auctioned, as well as Cancer Comfort Pillows for breast cancer survivors recovering from a mastectomy, and "Toasty Toes" socks for those in chemotherapy.
The March of Dimes was next. We filled a baby tub with hand made baby quilts, burp pads, toys, a mobile, a diaper changing station organizer and more and finished it up diapers, baby bottles to create a wonderful auction piece available for bid on Nov 2 at Meadowview Conference Center.
For The Oasis, a local women's ministry that makes washing and drying machines available for 25 cents a load, we made denim laundry bags. Also donated, was five copies of The Sew Helpful Pocket Guide to Sewing Basics 101 and Secrets of a Vet Tech: The Guide to Low Cost Pet Care when the Cupboard is Bare by our own JC Farris.
